Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,
Assalamu-Alaikum.
I have done something that I need to repent and ask for forgiveness for.
A while back, I got into a debate on Islam vs. Christianity with an Anti-Islam writer. We had a detailed online and face to face debate and due to some of his comments, somehow I ended up challenging him to a Mubahala (Qur’an, 3:61) which he surprisingly accepted. I wanted to follow the Sunnah of our Messengersaw.
I consulted with some Muslims in regards to this who approved of it and decided to go forward. I was born into the Ahmadi/Qadiani Faith for 22 years of my life, a faith well-known for Mubahala challenge Fraud which could have possibly had an influence on my thinking, thought process, and outlook but nevertheless reverted to Islam a while back and truly and fully 100% believe in Muhammadsaw to be the absolute Last in Line of all the Prophets and that anyone who claims prophethood after Muhammadsaw is a liar. Another alleged “Mubahala” that possibly could have had an affect in my thinking and led me to believe in what I was doing was right was an alleged “Mubahala” (which was not accepted by the Ulema) of a certain Pakistani gentleman (which was against a late Ahmadi/Qadiani leader).
We met January 1st of this year and prayed and took our Oaths. There are a couple of signs that I received after this time which when added up indicated to me that what I did was clearly wrong. Finally, there was one night where I couldn’t sleep knowing I had done something wrong and I repeatedly and repeatedly asked AllahSWT for forgiveness and prayed for guidance and then later realized why I had made a mistake.
I realized that I made a terrible mistake and that I should have seriously taken into consideration the views of the scholars who believe that this Mubahala was a one time event reserved solely for the Prophetsaw with the Christians of Najran.
If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge Hath come to thee, say: “Come! let us gather together,- our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: Then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!” (Qur’an, 3:61)
The Prophet Muhammadsaw was the recipient of divine revelation and the word “thee” would refer to specifically to him.
But even with the other opinion among scholars that does allow for a Mubahala to take place, I completely overlooked the part of the verse that clearly states that Mubahala involves family members and more importantly multiple people.
Answered by Sheikh `Abd al-`Azîz al-Fawzân, professor at al-Imâm University
Mubâhalah is a very serious issue and it could bring disastrous consequences. It is known in the system of life set by Allah that the sinner in mubâhalah will hardly pass one year before he, his family, and whoever else participates with him in it dies.
Mubâhalah as Allah describes it in the Qur’ân, does not take place between two persons. It is a big problem because is (it) involves the whole family. It is very serious.

I’m not married, nor do I have any children, and the rest of my family is Ahmadi/Qadiani. By doing this “Mubahala” “One on One,” I committed a huge mistake and clearly went against the text of The Qur’an and The Sunnah of our beloved Prophetsaw and I believe that I have made an unnecessary mockery of Allah’s religion, and I need to repent and I need to ask for forgiveness from AllahSWT.
Either way, I was completely unqualified to do this.
I simply wish to continue my life as a Muslim seeking knowledge and striving to improve my Deen. Your prayers for my well being would be very much appreciated. I am extremely sorry for what I did and will repent to AllahSWT for my mistake. I pray that May AllahSWT forgive me and keep me safe.
Wasalam,
